The Swedes celebrate midsummer solstice by eating the first strawberries of the season which coincidentally is the name of the full moon tomorrow night; 24th June will be the Strawberry Moon. To celebrate I'm going to be knocking up some of these midsummer inspired strawberry and mint mocktails ….maybe the full mojito on the weekend ;)
We're realising that it'll take time to recover from this crazy pandemic aren't we? Here are my top 3 essential oils to support your emotional recovery, apart from neroli, which I featured in my last newsletter and is my absolute favourite.
Mandarin – Children love this gentle, uplifting citrus oil. Us adults can also tap into its innocent, joyful spirit. More of this please!
Sweet basil – stimulating yet sedating depending on the dose, this complex little number targets burn out/stress/nervous exhaustion and will relieve digestive cramps and spasms too which is often where we hold nervous energy.
Rosemary – a high energy, invigorating oil for clearing the head, lifting depression and bringing heat to the muscles. You’ll find it in my Clear Pastures pulse point oil blended with sweet basil, cardamom and peppermint. For those days when you need a kick up the @rse. Find it on my website here

Skin food; getting out in the sun is a great tonic but now I’m even more fastidious about sun cream as I’ve recently been treated for sun damage. I usually buy the Jason Family 45 SPF for all of us to use (tear free, water resistant and reef safe). Here’s a run down on what to look for in your sunscreen. Look after your skin; it's your biggest organ.
Brain food; Mare of Easttown (Sky) & Time (BBC) both feature incredible acting and focus on the nuances of what makes a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ human. It feels like we're reaching saturation point when it comes to self help podcasts but Just One Thing is a good humoured, short, medically informed look at how to make small healthy changes that really do make a difference. Great for the time poor.
Body food: I'm always after quick, nutritious, tasty food and am currently liking Melissa Hemsley’s recipes from Eat Green (or her insta for free inspiration) like these cheerful citrus muffins.
Did you know?
Worshiping the sun god - “Ra” - was a BIG deal in Ancient Egypt but have you ever heard of Sun Ra, the most prolific recording artist ever? He was a jazz/funk artist who recorded over 200 albums from the 1950s to the ‘90s. He was obsessed with Ancient Egypt, created his own cosmic philosophy, dressed like a pharaoh, used electronic keyboards and synths long before anyone else and claimed he’d come from Saturn to save the black race.
I just love learning about prolific, eccentric people like this. If you do too, read more here.
